The SUNY Erie athletic department recently recognized some of its top student-athletes for the 2018-19 school year at its annual awards ceremony.
Sophomore Michael Flemming, a catcher on the baseball team, and sophomore Kayla Wolinski, a leading hitter on the volleyball team and softball team, received the Lawrence E. Spring Award as Athletes of the Year.
Flemming was a First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference after catching nearly every game for the Kats this season. He hit. 391 and drove in 48 runs for the Kats this year that finished the season with a 29-20 record and advanced to the regional final four.
Wolinski was an All-Region volleyball selection after leading the team and finishing third in the region with 3.51 kills per set. Wolinski also was one of the top hitters on the softball team with a .405 batting average and 27 RBI.
Sophomore Abbigal Ettinger received the Helen Cornell Award as student-athlete with the highest grade point average after three semesters. She earned All-Region honors in swimming and holds two individual school records in the pool. She also was a member of the lacrosse team.
Ciera Lundy, an All-Region selection in soccer and lacrosse, received the Grace Galanti Scholarship Award. Timothy Bogdan, a sophomore on the hockey team, and Jonathan Pilat, a sophomore on the swimming team each received the Ralph Galanti, Sr. Awards.
Michael Motley (men’s basketball) and Michael Costello (men’s bowling) were each presented their All-American certificates.
