The Kats kicked off their season with a shootout in the first quarter but unfortunately it was not enough to pull out a win as the Kats dropped their season opener against the Hocking College Hawks 50-26 at West Herr Stadium on Saturday.
In the first quarter, the Kats and Hawks were back and forth, starting with the Kats Dieon Johnson intercepting a pass early and taking it back for a 37 yard touchdown. The Kats would then give up two touchdowns before Michael Johnson would punch home a touchdown run from the 3 yard line. David Moore of Hocking College would take back the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, giving the Hawks a 21-14 lead that they would take into the second quarter.
Just six seconds into the second quarter, Kats quarterback Tyler Zelinski would find Laquan White for a 17 yard touchdown pass and bring the Kats within 1.
The Hawks would then score 29 unanswered until the Kats scored late on a 7 yard touchdown pass from Alex Douglas to Amonte Gwinn in the front corner of the endzone to give the Kats 24 points before Seven Turpin rushed for a two point conversion.
The Kats will look to bounce back next week when they take on the Utica Pioneers JV at Utica, NY on Sunday, September 17th at 2PM. (Full schedule)
