Nelsonville, OH -- The Kats opened the season with a 44-15 win on the road over the Hocking College Hawks on Saturday.
The Kats would get on the board first after capitalizing on a fumble recovery from Jeremiah Wilkes. The Kats found the endzone on a 3 yard touchdown run from Khalil Horton. After surrendering a touchdown, the Kats would take a 10-7 lead into the second quarter after a 35 yard field goal from Charles Hayes.
A field goal from Hayes and a Jack Edwards touchdown pass to Isiah Hinton from 23 yards out would put the Kats up 20-7 going into half time.
The Kats came out firing in the second half, outscoring the Hawks 17-0. An early field goal by Hayes would extend the lead to 23-7 before Michael Standly would recover a fumble and return it for a touchdown to put the Kats up 30-7. Cody Workman would find Erriono Giardina for an 18 yard touchdown pass to put the Kats up 37-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Hawks would add a touchdown and a two point conversion before the Kats would score their final touchdown of the game. Spencer Loftus would run it in from two yards out to put the Kats up 44-15.
Cody Workman would lead the Kats in rushing yards with 72 yards on 10 carries while Jack Edwards was 6 for 21 with 60 yards, a touchdown and an interception through the air. Erriono Giardina would have two catches for 24 yards and a touchdown.
On the defense, Mason Hoose would have two tackles for a loss and Samuel Fairly would add an interception.
The Kats next game is Saturday September 8th when they host Hudson Valley Community College for the Kats home opener at West Herr Stadium at South Campus. Kickoff is set for 1PM.
