Troy, NY -- The Kats prevailed in a soggy afternoon matchup with Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY on Saturday, 28-9.
It was a low scoring affair in the first half as the offenses seemed bogged down by the wet conditions, Hudson Valley led at the half 9-3, the lone Kats score coming from a Charles Hayes field goal.
The second half was a different story as the Kats offense made some strides and recieved help from the defense. Jack Edwards would break the touchdown drought just 4 minutes into the second half with a four yard touchdown run. A missed point after attempt from Charles Hayes would keep the game tied at 9.
Edwards would again find the endzone in the closing minutes of the third quarter, this time through the air, connecting with Che'kore Moore for a 36 yard touchdown pass. A failed 2-pt conversion would make the score 15-9.
Marvin Appleberry would help the Kats cause when he intercepted Hudson Valley quarterback Nik Rango just seconds into the fourth quarter and returned it for a 34 yard touchdown to put the Kats up 21-9 after another missed 2-pt conversion attempt.
The final Kats points would come come on a two yard touchdown run from Brandon Yax with 9 minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
The Kats defense held stout against Hudson Valley, sacking the quarterback four times and intercepting the Hudson Valley passers twice. The Kats took advantage of the wet conditions and cause two fumbles with one being recovered by Mason Hoose.
Khalil Horton would rush for 101 yards for the Kats in the victory that sealed their third straight NJCAA Region III Championship.
The Kats return home after a four game road trip when they host Monroe College on Saturday November 3rd at 12PM at West Herr Stadium at SUNY Erie South Campus.
