Alex Nwora Coaching Nigeria in World Cup Qualifying this Weekend

Erie Community College men’s basketball coach Alex Nwora will continue his duties as the head coach of the Nigerian Men’s National Basketball Team this weekend when he leads his team in the 2019 FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers.

Nigeria hosts the national teams from Uganda, Rwanda and Mali in Lagos. Nwora’s team currently stands 3-0 in the first round of qualifying; having beaten each of these three teams in Mali back in February. The ultimate goal is to qualify for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Beijing, China.

All three games this weekend will be streamed live on WatchESPN.com. Nigeria’s schedule is as follows:

Friday, June 29 at 3:30 p.m. vs Uganda

Saturday, June 30 at 3:30 p.m. vs Rwanda

Sunday, July 1 at 3:30 p.m. vs Mali

Nwora’s son Jordan Nwora, who will be entering his sophomore season at the University of Louisville, will be joining the Nigerian team for the first time.

Nwora has coached the Erie basketball team since 1999. He is the winningest basketball coach in Erie history with a 371-170 record
