Williamsville, NY -- Sophomore catcher Chelsea Davis pounded out five hits and drove in six runs to lead the Erie Community College (3-1/3-1 Region III) softball team to a doubleheader split with Corning Community College (8-4/4-2 Region III) Tuesday afternoon in Williamsville. Corning, which is ranked No. 9 in this week’s NJCAA Division III poll, won the opener 13-5 in six innings. Erie came back to take the nightcap, 11-7.
Erie hit three home runs in its win in the second game. Sophomore Gianna Zarcone’s three-run home run and freshman Jessica Colemen’a two-run shot highlighted a six-run first inning. Davis also homered in the game and was two-for-four with two RBI. Zarcone picked up the win in the circle as well. She allowed seven runs, only one of which was earned, and 11 hits. She struck out four and walked one.
Corning scored six runs in the third inning to take control of the opener. Davis led the Kats at the plate. She was three-for-three with two doubles and four RBI. Sophomore Mercedes Garlow also had two doubles for the Kats.
Erie will return to action Saturday, April 14 when it hosts Genesee Community College. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
