Williamsville, NY -- Sophomore Gianna Zarcone picked up two wins in the circle and pounded out five hits to lead the Erie Community College (5-1/5-1 Region 3) softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Genesee Community College (0-13/0-4 Region 3) today in Williamsville. Erie won the opener, 5-4, and the nightcap, 12-1.
Zarcone hit a walk-off single to left that scored Kourtney Urbancyzk to give the Kats the win in the seventh inning of the opener.
RBI doubles by Sarah D’Auria and Jennifer Coleman gave Erie a 3-0 lead in the second inning before Genesee plated four runs of its own in the top of the third. The Kats tied the game in the fourth inning with a two-out RBI triple by Alyssa Garlow.
Zarcone picked up the win after pitching the final four innings, holding Genesee scoreless on just two hits while striking out four. At the plate, she was three-for-four with a double and an RBI. Coleman was two-for-two with two doubles and an RBI.
Courtney Bailey was two-for-three with two doubles and three RBI and Alyssa Garlow was two-for-three with a double and three RBI to power the Kats in the second game. Zarcone was two-for-three with a triple and Sarah Bagley and Chelsea Davis each drove in two runs. Zarcone pitched all five innings, allowing one run on five hits. She struck out four.
The Kats return to action Tuesday, April 17 when they host Broome Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
