Williamsville, NY -- The Erie Community College (2-0) softball team opened its season with a pair of 8-0 wins over Finger Lakes Community College (1-8) Tuesday on Santo DeSain Field.
Erie plated five runs in the first inning of the opener and added three more in the third. That was all the runs freshman right-hander Carli Bogue would need in her first start. She picked up the win after allowing just three hits over five innings of work. She struck out six and walked three.
Sophomore Gianna Zarcone led the way at the plate. She was two-for-three with two RBI. Sophomore Sarah D’Auria was one-for-two with two RBI and sophomore Mercedes Garlow had a two-run double. Sophomore Chelsea Davis was two-for-three.
Davis’ two-run home run to center field gave the Kats an early 2-0 lead in the nightcap. She finished the game three-for-four with a home run and three RBI to lead the Kats. Sophomore Sarah Bagley was two-for-two with a double and an RBI. Freshman Kayla Wolinski added an RBI double.
Zarcone picked up the win in the circle. She allowed six hits over five innings of work. She also was two-for-four with a double at the plate.
Erie will return to action Thursday, April 5 when it hosts Tompkins Cortland Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
