Women's Basketball Defeats Mercyhurst North East In Thriller, 64-61

Buffalo, NY -- The Kats held on in a close game Saturday as they defeated the Mercyhurst North East Saints, 64-61.

After a rocky start, giving up 9 unanswered points to start the game, the Kats tightened up and clawed their way back into the game.

Tied at half at 36, the Kats would edge out the Saints in the third quarter and send the game into the fourth with a 50-48 lead.

In the fourth, the Kats would eventually take a nine point lead before the Saints would begin to fight their way back. A one point game in the final fifteen seconds was extended when Nukia Funderburk would hit two clutch free throws to extend the lead to three before Janae Brannon would steal the ball from Nia Phillips and solidify the win for the Kats.

Jaisy Soto would lead the Kats with 25 points while Janae Brannon added 16 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Tea'laya Huff would add 12 points and 17 rebounds as she dominated the boards.

The Kats next game is Monday February 18th at 5:30 when they travel to Jamestown Community College.
