Orchard Park, NY -- In a clash of nationally ranked teams, the Kats, ranked No. 5 in NJCAA Division 3 poll, defeated Monroe Community College, ranked No. 10 in NJCAA Division 1 poll, 2-1 on Monday.

The Kats kicked off the scoring in the 9th minute when Jena Schelble would capitalize on a stolen pass from a goal kick and put the Kats up 1-0.

The Tribunes would answer in the 25th minute when Justina Meneses would score from a scramble in the box.

Tied at the half, the Kats came out in the second half firing when Annaelise Ziemann headed in a corner from Schelble to put the Kats up 2-1.

The Kats defense held strong, holding the Tribunes to no shots in the second half.

"At this moment I’m just incredibly proud and feel lucky to be a part of this group. The determination, the grit - the sheer will to get the job done today, amazing" said Coach Gary Boughton on the win.

“The girls bought in. They accepted the game plan and executed it well. Defensively we stayed very organized - all the way from the forwards back, and that was key for us. I’m just really happy for them.”

The win improved the Kats record to 5-0 on the season. The Kats next game is Saturday September 8th at 3PM when they host Corning Community College at ECC South Campus.
