On the strength of it’s diving the Erie Community College women’s swimming and diving team earned a runner up finish at the 2019 Region 3/Northeast District Championships hosted by Monroe Community College. Meanwhile, Erie’s men finished third after an MVP performance from Jonathan Pilat.
Sophomore Haley Roblee finished on top of the the one- and three-meter diving events. She set a school record on the three-meter board with 382.70 points and won the one-meter event with 359.85 points. Sophomore Stephanie Szmuda was second on the one-meter board with 317.25 points.
The Kats would need every point to earn the second place finish. Erie finished with 299 points with Fashion Institute of Technology just one point behind it. Sophomore Abbie Ettinger paced the Kats in the pool with second place finishes in the 50 Free (27.22), 200 Free (2:15.13) and 100 Free (59.78). Freshman Alex Clifford took second in the 1,650 Free (22:39.81).
Pilat was named the one of the Most Valuable Swimmers of the meet as he won each of the individual races he entered. Pilat was first in the 50 Free (22.83), 100 Back (56.98) and 100 Free (49.91). Freshman Dillon Wolfe took second in the 200 Fly (2:15.18).
Erie will return to action March 6-9 when it hosts the NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
