The Erie baseball Kats defeated Glen Oaks (Mich.) 6-5, in a back-and-forth affair on Friday. The Kats rebounded from a lopsided season-opening game against a higher division opponent in late February to open their Florida trip with a win.
Erie captured the lead in the first inning, but Glen Oaks scored three runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead.
The Kats scored four in the eighth to regain its lead at 5-4 and added an insurance run in the ninth for a 6-4 lead that proved to be the game-winning run as the Viking rally fell short with a single run in the ninth.
Gabe Seijas earned the win for the Kats. He threw two innings, surrendering zero runs, one hit, striking out one, and walking none. Marlison Brunken recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Erie.
Luke Bowser started the game for Erie and pitched five innings, surrendering four runs, five hits, striking out seven, and walking one.
The Kats collected 11 hits. Brunken, Kyle Gould, and Eric Marriott each collected multiple hits for Erie, while Brunken went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Erie in hits and added a pair of stolen bases.
