Winter Haven, FL -- The SUNY Erie baseball team scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-4 win over Lincoln College (IL) in it’s season opener at Chain of Lakes Park.
Given a seven-run lead before he even stepped onto the mound, sophomore pitcher Chris Vitale made sure Lincoln would not get back into the game. He allowed just one hit and one un-earned run over six innings of work to get the win. He struck out eight and walked three. Sophomore William Arias pitched the final three innings to earn the save.
The Kats pounded out 12 hits in the game. Freshman right fielder Kevin Walter was three-for-five with three RBI. Sophomore shortstop Alex Lopez was three-for-four with a double and an RBI. Sophomores Ken Ruggiero and Jordan Huber drove in two runs apiece.
The Kats will return to action tomorrow when they face Delta College (MI) at 10 a.m.
