Bio

Since taking over the Erie men's basketball program during the 1999-2000 season, Alex Nwora has turned the Kats into a regional power on the hardwood. He has guided the Kats to 11 20-win seasons, including six straight from 2007 to 2013.

The Kats have a 448-204 record during Nwora’s time in the Flickinger Center, making him the winningest coach in the program’s history. During his tenure, the Kats have won the Region III title eightn times: 2001, 2004, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2019 and 2020. He was chosen as the Region III Coach of the Year in 2001, 2008, 2010, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and was the District II Coach of the Year in 2001, 2004, 2008, 2011 and 2019.

The 2018-19 season under Coach Nwoar may have been his best. The Kats finished the year with a 27-6 record, won its second straight Region 3 championship and placed fourth in the country at the NJCAA Division 2 Championship

ECC won back-to-back regional championships in 2010-11 and 2011-12 under coach Nwora. The Kats were 28-4 in 2010-11 and finished fourth in the 2011 NJCAA Division II Tournament. Erie finished 27-5 in 2011-12 and seventh in the NJCAA tournament.

A staple in international basketball, Coach Nwora is the head coach of the Nigerian Men’s National Team, leading it to a second place finish at the 2017 FIBA Africa Championships. Nwora was the head coach of the Cape Verde Men’s National Team from 2009 to 2014. In 2013, he guided Cape Verde to a sixth place finish at the African Championships in which only a one point loss to Egypt in the knockout stage prevented his team from qualifying for the 2014 FIBA World Championships.

Nwora previously served as an assistant coach at Medaille College from 1996-1999. He is also a member of the Daemen athletics Hall of Fame. As a senior, Nwora averaged 19.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game on his way to all-conference and All-America honors. Nwora is still the Wildcats' all-time leading rebounder and is the lone player in school history to score more than 1,500 points and snare 1,000-or-more rebounds. He ranks in the program's top 10 in scoring (fifth), steals (sixth) and blocked shots (eighth).
