Dan Streer and Allie DeBiase were named ECC April's men's and women's student-athletes of the month for their performances by the most recently completed month – March.
The National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association spotlight descended upon Buffalo and ECC during the first week of March as the Kats hosted the National Championships in both bowling and swimming and diving.
Anytime an athlete is crowned an All-American, they're probably going to be the school's athlete of the month. Not only did Streer accomplish that feat, but in the process led the Kats to a third-place national finish.
Streer finished third overall in all-events with 2,414 pins and second overall in men's singles with a 618 series, including a strong third game of 246 – the best of any bowler, March 3-4 at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga.
The NJCAA Swimming and Diving Nationals held at the City Campus Burt Flickinger Athletic Center were held March 1 and Kat swimmers visited the championship podium six times.
Garnering the most trips to the championship podium was Allie DeBiase with three separate individual trips, as well as a fourth time as part of the women's 200-yard medley team.
DeBiase finished seventh twice and eighth once. Her two seventh-place finishes were in the 400-yard IM and the 1,650-yard freestyle, while her eighth-place finish was in the 200-yard breaststroke.
