The Erie Community College baseball team opened its 2021 season with a split of four games at Monroe Community College over the weekend. Monroe swept Saturday's doubleheader 10-2 and 8-7, and the Kats rebounded to sweep the Tribunes on Sunday, 13-10 and 12-5.
The Kats hit .352 in the series. Freshman Greg Hare was 7-for-14 with two home runs and seven RBI on the weekend. Freshman Arlain Sesin also had seven hits and drove in four runs. Freshman Carter Arbuthnot added five hits, including two doubles, and seven RBI.
Freshman Nolan Evans picked up the win on the mound in Sunday's opener. He allowed six runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work. He struck out seven and walked none. After walking his first three batters, freshman Billy Quinn settled down to get the win in game two. He allowed two earned runs on six hits in four innings of work.
Although Monroe had a number of base runners, Erie's defense made sure the Tribunes did not get extra runs. The Kats committed just three errors and Erie catchers threw out four would be base stealers, including three by freshman catcher Cole Cote.
Erie returns to action this Thursday, March 25 when it hosts Monroe College at 1 p.m.
