Six Kats Recognized by Region 3
The Erie Community College baseball team had its season come to close on May 15 with a third place finish at the NJCAA Region 3 Tournament. Six members of the team were recognized for their outstanding play during the season and in the tournament.
Left fielder Greg Hare was a First Team All-Region selection after leading the region with 11 home runs this season. He finished the year with a .381 batting average and was fifth in the region with 38 RBI and sixth with 17 stolen bases.
Shortstop Isaiah Salas and catcher Cole Cote earned Second Team All-Region recognition. Salas hit .323 with six home runs and 25 RBI. He led with region with five saves on the mound and also was named to the region's All-Glove Team. Cote hit .368 with two home runs and 17 RBI.
Centerfielder Arlain Sesin also was named to the All-Glove Team for his strong play in the outfield. He also hit .354 with 3 home runs and 19 RBI. He was second in the region with 50 runs scored and fourth with 18 stolen bases.
Pitcher Connor Desiderio and infielder Colin Fryling were named to the Region 3 All-Tournament Team. Desiderio finished the season tied for second in the region with seven wins. His last came in the opening round of the tournament when he allowed three hits and three earned runs against top-seeded Herkimer. Fryling was four-for-12 with two home runs and four RBI in the tournament. He led the team with a .382 batting average for the season.
Erie finished the year with a 21-18 record. The Kats have had a winning record in 28 of the last 29 seasons under Coach Joe Bauth, who picked up his 1000th coaching win earlier in the year and now has 1,011 career coaching wins as the Erie skipper.
