Erie baseball dropped both games of a midweek doubleheader against Mid Michigan, including a heartbreaking walk-off loss in the opener.
In the first game, the Kats jumped out quickly and appeared to have the contest in hand before Mid Michigan rallied late for a 16–15 victory in eight innings.
Erie struck first in the opening inning when Zach Bedard was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Noah LaPierre followed with an RBI single. The Kats added to their lead in the second as Layne Staubitz delivered an RBI double to make it 4–1.
The offense exploded in the third inning when Erie plated 10 runs on seven hits to build a commanding advantage. Ryan Boyle highlighted the inning with a three-run double, while John Callahan, Zac Chrystian, LaPierre, and Nolan Nobile each drove in runs during the rally.
LaPierre led the Kats at the plate with three hits and three RBIs, while Boyle also drove in three runs. Callahan, Nobile, and Staubitz each added multiple hits as Erie finished with 13 in the game. Elijah Williams showed patience at the plate, drawing three walks as the Kats totaled eight free passes.
Mid Michigan battled back late, tying the game in the seventh before pushing across the winning run in the eighth on a sacrifice bunt to complete the comeback.
The second game proved tougher for the Kats, as Mid Michigan built an early lead and Erie was unable to recover in a 12–0 loss.
Erie's lone hit came from Williams, who went 1-for-2 at the plate. The Kats will look to bounce back quickly as they travel to St. Cloud Tech for their next matchup.
