Erie put together a strong all-around performance in a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday, earning a pair of victories behind timely hitting and solid pitching.
In the opener, the Kats broke things open in the middle innings on their way to a 9–2 win. After taking an early lead, Erie created separation in the fourth inning with a five-run surge. Tyler Pagano and Jaxsyn Moritz each drew bases-loaded walks, a wild pitch brought in another run, and Layne Staubitz and Nolan Nobile each drove in runs to cap the rally.
Erie had taken control earlier in the third inning when Ryan Boyle delivered an RBI double and Zach Bedard followed with a run-scoring single. On the mound, Nick Gold earned the win with five strong innings, allowing just one run (unearned) on three hits. Liam McMurray set the tone early, giving up just one run over two innings.
The Kats showed patience at the plate throughout, drawing 10 walks, while Nobile led the way with two RBIs.
In the second game, Erie continued its offensive momentum, earning a 9–4 victory. Trailing early, the Kats responded in the third inning when Staubitz launched a three-run home run to give Erie the lead for good.
Nobile paced the offense with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Pagano added two hits as Erie totaled nine hits in the game.
On the mound, Jaden Korpan picked up the win, working five and two-thirds innings and allowing three runs while keeping Erie in control. Rafael Smith came on in relief to secure the save.
