Kats Win Home Opener
The Erie Community College football team escaped an ugly first half of football to come out with a win in their home opener on Sunday. The Kats hosted Buffalo State JV at Williamsville South High School, beating the Bengals 35-7.
After a first half where neither team found the endzone, Erie was the first to get on the board when quarterback Eric Wilson hit Addison Copeland for an 80 yard score in the third quarter. Buffalo State would respond with a score of their own to knot the game at seven.
It was the fourth quarter that belonged to the Kats. Erie would get the go ahead touch down when Wilson ran one in from the three yard line with just over six minutes to play.
The final two minutes of the game saw the Kats score on a fumble recovery and two interceptions to seal the victory.
Erie Coach Mike Kemp used all three of his quarterbacks in the game. Wilson was 10 of 20 with 56 yards and one interception in addition to his two scores. Thomas Che threw for 59 yard and ran for 30 while Nathan Snow was also in for a play.
Jayden Lewis, coming off NJCAA DIII player of the week honors, finished with 88 rushing yards.
The Kats improve to 2-1 on the season and will go back on the road and travel to Brockport for a match-up with the Golden Eagles JV on September 23rd.
