Erie football holds off Nassau for 28–27 win
The Erie Community College football team survived a dramatic finish to edge Nassau Community College, 28–27, on Saturday.
The Kats built a 14–0 halftime lead and extended it to 28–6 early in the fourth quarter before Nassau mounted a late rally. The Lions scored twice and recovered an onside kick to pull within one possession.
With Erie attempting to run out the clock in the final seconds, quarterback Nick Commisso fumbled a snap while taking a knee, and Nassau recovered. Two plays later, the Lions connected on a Hail Mary touchdown to make it a one-point game. But the Kats partially blocked the extra point attempt to preserve the narrow victory.
Willoughby finished 16-of-28 passing for 194 yards, four touchdowns, including one rushing, and one interception. Reginald Hokes III caught five passes for 84 yards and two scores, while Delshon Taylor led the defense with seven tackles, including two sacks.
Erie will host Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday for Homecoming, with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m.
