Erie Men's Bowling Wins 23rd Regional Championship!
Utica, NY- The Erie men's bowling team won the school's 23rd Region III Bowling Championship on Saturday. Led by All events Champion Jeffrey Ciurczak, the team bowled 9653 pins to take the title, the first since 2019.
The team had the top two bowlers overall in the tournament and five in the top 10. Ciurczak finished first with Parker Esch second, Cam Stark third, Brian Templeton finished fifth while Eric Engler finished ninth overall.
Head Coach Dave Zajac said of the win, "Today we achieved the first goal that we set for ourselves at the start of the season, win the Region III championship. Now we have one week to prepare for the ultimate goal, contend for an NJCAA Championship. With the help of our team assistant, Matt Limardi, and the determination of our players we will roll into NJCAAs with our heads held high from our performance today."
The Kats also took four of the top five spots in the doubles event. The duo of Stark and Esch finished second, Ciruczak and Engler finshed third and Templeeton and Swannie taking fourth.
Erie also had the top women's bowler with Abby Schroeder taking the All events winner and singles title as well as bowling a high game of 213.
"Abby was a late addition to our roster, but a welcomed one. This was only her third event with the program and she held her own," said Zajac. "She's learned a tremendous amount with us over the last month and she's equally as eager to head to Michigan next month."
Erie will compete for the NJCAA National Bowling Championship in Lansing, Michigan starting March 3rd.
