The Erie Kats hockey team put together an impressive 2–0 weekend, earning a hard-fought 6–5 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday before skating to a crucial 8–4 league victory over Hobart on Sunday. The sweep moves Erie to 7–3 overall and 2–2 in league play.
Kats Hold Off Bonnies in Saturday Thriller
Erie came out strong in Saturday's matchup with St. Bonaventure, building a 5–2 advantage and carrying a 6–3 lead into the third period thanks to big offensive production. Kevin Rieman and Alex Noel led the way with two goals each, helping the Kats control the pace early.
Undisciplined penalties in the final frame allowed the Bonnies to climb back into the game, but Erie held strong defensively in the closing minutes to secure the 6–5 win.
Erie Earns Key League Win Over Hobart
Sunday's contest carried major postseason implications, featuring a showdown between second-place Hobart and third-place Erie in the Metro division of the Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League (UNYCHL). Hobart had taken the teams' previous meeting, but the Kats responded with authority this time around.
