Kats Hockey Sweeps Weekend, Tops St. Bonaventure and Hobart

The Erie Kats hockey team put together an impressive 2–0 weekend, earning a hard-fought 6–5 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday before skating to a crucial 8–4 league victory over Hobart on Sunday. The sweep moves Erie to 7–3 overall and 2–2 in league play.

Kats Hold Off Bonnies in Saturday Thriller

Erie came out strong in Saturday's matchup with St. Bonaventure, building a 5–2 advantage and carrying a 6–3 lead into the third period thanks to big offensive production. Kevin Rieman and Alex Noel led the way with two goals each, helping the Kats control the pace early.

Undisciplined penalties in the final frame allowed the Bonnies to climb back into the game, but Erie held strong defensively in the closing minutes to secure the 6–5 win.

Erie Earns Key League Win Over Hobart

Sunday's contest carried major postseason implications, featuring a showdown between second-place Hobart and third-place Erie in the Metro division of the Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League (UNYCHL). Hobart had taken the teams' previous meeting, but the Kats responded with authority this time around.

Erie's offense exploded for eight goals, powered by standout performances from several Kats.

• Mac Ward delivered a dominant six-point outing with three goals and three assists.

• Kevin Rieman followed closely with three goals and two assists, capping off a massive weekend.

• Christian Leone also added key scoring to fuel the win.

The Kats controlled the pace from the opening puck drop and never let up, securing an important league win that tightens the race in the division standings.

Up next, the Kats will close out the semester with a home-and-home series against Penn State Behrend — traveling to Erie, Pa. on Friday before returning home for Saturday's rematch.
