The Erie Community College hockey team turned in a thrilling weekend performance, earning a two-game sweep of Penn State Behrend with comeback victories on Friday and Saturday.
Friday: Rieman's Six-Goal Night Fuels 9–7 Comeback
Erie opened the weekend with a wild 9–7 victory Friday night, rallying from a 6–4 deficit entering the third period. Kevin Rieman delivered one of the most dominant performances of the season, scoring six goals to lead the Kats.
Rieman scored twice in the opening minutes of the game, and Erie added a late first-period power-play goal from Alex Noel. After Penn State Behrend built its lead through the first two periods, Erie erupted for five goals in the third period. Rieman scored four times in the final frame, including a power-play goal, while Mac Ward added two goals in the win.
Saturday: Third-Period Surge Secures 7–5 Win
The Kats completed the sweep Saturday night with another comeback, this time skating to a 7–5 victory after trailing through much of the contest.
Erie struck first while shorthanded as Rieman scored at 3:55 of the opening period, assisted by Christian Leone. Penn State Behrend answered with multiple goals across the first two periods, taking a lead into the third.
Once again, Erie's offense came alive in the final frame.
Max Dobucki jumpstarted the rally early in the third period, followed quickly by a goal from Christian Leone to tie the game. Mark Klubke then gave Erie its first lead of the night midway through the period. Mac Ward closed out the win with two late goals, including the game-winner and an insurance tally.
Rieman capped a dominant weekend with multiple goals and assists, while Ward, Dobucki, Klubke, and Leone each played key roles in Saturday's comeback.
With the weekend sweep, the Kats enter the semester break riding a six-game winning streak and holding a 10–3 overall record.
