Erie hockey came up just short in a hard-fought rivalry matchup Thursday night, falling 7–6 to cross-town rival SUNY Niagara in a game with major playoff implications.
Both teams traded blows all night in a fast-paced, back-and-forth battle. Erie showed resilience late, tying the game at six with just under three minutes remaining, but SUNY Niagara answered with the game-winning goal at the 1:35 mark to seal the win.
Leading the way for the Kats was Adam Caitlin, who posted a huge night with three goals and two assists. Kevin Rieman also chipped in offensively, finishing with two goals and an assist.
Erie has two games this weekend in a home-and-home series with Niagara University before renewing the rivalry against SUNY Niagara on Monday, February 9th.
