The Erie Community College women's softball team got off to a good start on Saunday afternoon by sweeping Columbia Greene 19-0 and 18-1 on a windy day at Medaille College.
In the first game, Kate Poitras led a 12 hit attack going 4-4 with 5 RBI's. Samantha Heppel, Samantha Wing and Emily Belike had two hits each with Wing adding 4 RBI's and a triple. Emily Krause chipped in going 1-2 with two RBI's and Emma Poitras added a two run double.
Heppel was strong in the circle earning her first shutout of the season. The transfer would allow only 5 hits and would strike out 8 over 5 innings.
In the second game the Kats kept the offense coming with an 18-1 victory highlighted by an 8 run second inning. Once again the Kats would pound out 12 hits. Samantha Heppel, Emily Belile and Maddie Frost each contributed two hits, Frost would add two RBI's as would Emma Poitras. Julia Kilonski added an RBI double in the fifth and five other Kats would register RBI's including Alyssa Kilonski, Samantha Wing, Giselle Rodriguez, Yeldali Tejada and Heppel. Maddie Mazur would chip in with a hit and a walk.
Samantha Heppel again toed the rubber in game two this time only surrendering 4 hits and adding 12 strikeouts in a dominant performance over five innings.
The Kats next action will be April 1st when they travel to Finger Lakes Community College.
