Erie softball dropped a pair of games on Wednesday, falling to Central Community College and Cuyahoga Community College.
In the first game, Erie out-hit Central nine to six but came up short in a 12–4 loss. The Kats took an early lead in the second inning when an error brought home a run. However, Central capitalized on several defensive miscues in the third inning to take control of the game.
Ashlyn Pignone led Erie offensively with three hits, while Adrianna Martinez and Carly Fraser each added multiple hits. Haley Lerner and Hailey Wisser each drove in a run for the Kats.
Grace Szpylman started in the circle for Erie, striking out four over four innings. Despite allowing eight runs, none were earned as Central took advantage of errors and drew several walks to generate offense.
In the second game of the day, Erie jumped out quickly with two runs in the first inning. Lily Radich doubled to center to drive in a run, and Olivia Orcholski later walked with the bases loaded to make it 2–0.
Cuyahoga responded immediately, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead and maintain control the rest of the way in an 8–2 result.
Radich and Pignone each collected two hits to lead the Erie offense. Radich finished with an RBI while the Kats also showed patience at the plate, drawing four walks in the contest.
Szpylman returned to the circle for the second game and worked six innings, allowing eight runs while battling through a lineup that produced 12 hits.
Despite the results, Erie continued to find success at the plate across the doubleheader, collecting 17 hits in the two games combined. The games also marked the conclusion of the Kats' spring training trip, as Erie now returns home to continue the season on its home field.
