SUNY Erie Women's Softball put together a complete performance on Friday, sweeping SUNY Niagara in a doubleheader behind clutch hitting and strong pitching.
In game one, Carly Fraser led the way with a dominant performance at the plate, driving in four runs on three hits in a 6-2 victory. Fraser got Erie on the board early with an RBI double in the first inning and continued to produce throughout the game, adding another RBI on a single in the fourth and a two-run double in the sixth.
Grace Szpylman was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just four hits and two runs. She struck out nine and did not issue a walk to keep Niagara's offense in check.
Erie's offense stayed disciplined, drawing five walks, while Ashlyn Pignone and Natalie Witt each added multiple hits to support the attack.
In game two, the Kats broke things open late, using a five-run sixth inning to secure an 8-0 win and complete the sweep.
Natalie Witt started the rally with an RBI single before Ashlyn Pignone delivered a big three-run triple. Fraser capped the inning with another RBI hit as Erie pulled away.
Amelia Potter earned the win in the circle, throwing five shutout innings while allowing just four hits. Szpylman came on in relief to secure the save.
Erie's bats stayed hot, piling up 13 hits in the game. Fraser capped her standout day with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, while Pignone and Fraser each drove in two runs. Haley Lerner also contributed with a pair of hits.
The Kats were sharp defensively as well, playing error-free softball in both games.
