SUNY Erie Women's Softball delivered a pair of strong performances on Monday, sweeping Tompkins Cortland CC with 13-2 and 8-2 victories.
In the opener, Erie used a game-changing third inning to pull away, erupting for eight runs in a 13-2 win. After falling behind early, the Kats answered with five runs in the first inning to take control, highlighted by a two-run single from Lily Radich.
The third inning proved decisive, as Erie capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues to break the game open. Olivia Orcholski, Natalie Witt, and Carly Fraser each drove in runs during the frame as the lead quickly grew.
Grace Szpylman was dominant in the circle, allowing just two hits and one unearned run over four and two-thirds innings while striking out eight.
At the plate, Radich, Haley Lerner, and Hailey Wisser each recorded two hits, while Erie showed patience with six walks and aggressiveness on the bases with four stolen bases, including two from Orcholski.
In game two, the Kats stayed hot offensively in an 8-2 victory to complete the sweep.
Carly Fraser led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, while Amelia Potter matched her with three hits and drove in four runs. Erie got on the board early and steadily added to its lead behind consistent hitting.
Potter also controlled the game in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two unearned runs on five hits with no walks.
The Kats totaled 11 hits in the contest, with Natalie Witt adding two more, as Erie once again paired strong pitching with a deep and productive lineup.
