Women's Basketball Season Ends With Loss To Mercyhurst North East

Buffalo, NY -- The fourth seeded Kats played host to the fifth seed Mercyhurst North East Saints tonight at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center in the first round of the NJCAA Region III Tournament. Homecourt advantage wasn't enough to lift the Kats over the Saints as the Kats would fall 76-62.

The Saints came out quick, overwhelming the Kats as they would play their way to a 44-22 lead heading into the second half. The third quarter was all Kats though as the Kats began to stage a comeback. The Kats would pull to within four points at the end of the third quarter, trailing 53-49 heading into the final quarter.

The Kats were led in scoring by Shamecca Minor who had 19 points, 11 in the third quarter. Aaron Shabazz would score 14 and add 18 rebounds to the Kats effort but the comeback fell short.

The fourth quarter was all Saints, as they would pull away late and take a 12 point victory to advance in the NJCAA Region III Tournament.

The loss ends the Kats' season in the first round of the regional tournament. The Kats finished the season with a 8-18 record, 4-10 in the conference.
