Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Finish in Top Ten at Championships
The Erie Community College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both finished in the national top-10 as the National Junior College Athletic Association wrapped up its national championships in Fort Pierce, Florida.
The women's team finished in fifth place with 213 points, marking the best finish in program history! The men's team secured a seventh overall team finish with 159 team points.
The four day event wrapped up on Saturday with the men also being awarded the Al Zamsky Award as the top non-scholarship team.
Kats swimmers earned a number of awards throughout the event. Highlights of the week include Libby Richardson setting a new Erie record in the 100 backstroke and 50 back stroke. Mason Rose played a part in eight different events for Erie CC to rack up 13 points for the Kats. Rose's efforts were enough to earn the 2021 NJCAA Non-Scholarship Male Swimmer of the Meet award.
The ladies 800 free relay team finished fourth while the men finished fifth.
On the diving side, Luca Guzzino and Kelsey Christophersen both made the podium. Guzzino finished third in the 1-meter and Christophersen took third in both the 2 meter and 3 meter. Coach Mike McDowell was named the NJCAA Diving Coach of the Year.
Indian River State College captured both the men's and women's titles. The Florida college swimming dynasty recorded its 47th-consecutive men's national title and 40th women's national title.
