Kats Shine at Region 3 Swimming Championships
The Erie Community College swimming and diving team had several standout performances at the Region 3 Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Erie over the weekend.
Freshman Tristen Madden solidified himself as the best backstroker in the region after winning all three backstroke events. His 50-Yard Back time of 26.00 seconds was just .45 seconds off the school record. He won the 100 back in 56.37, the 200 Back in 2:08.32, and was second in the 100-Yard Individual Medley in 1:00.28.
Freshman Peyton Jeris topped the podium in the 50-Yard Butterfly in 25.35, which was just .02 seconds from the school record. He also took second in the 100 Fly in 1:01.46 and was third in the 100 Free in 54.07.
Freshman Aidyn Malek followed his teammate with second place finishes in the 100 Back (1:04.64) and the 200 Back (2:19.54). He also had a third place finish in the 100 Fly (1:01.96).
Freshman Jharee Hollingsworth picked up national cut times in the 50 Free (26.71) and the 50 Fly (30.66).
On the women's side, sophomore Lexi Oldman completed a grueling meet with third place finishes in the 1,000 Free (12:49.91), 500 Free (6:21.55), 200 Fly (2:56.96) and the 1,650 Free (22:06.75).
The Kats will return to action in a couple of weeks to compete at the NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, FL.
