Baseball Comes up Short vs. Anoka
Erie battled throughout Saturday's matchup with Anoka Ramsey but came up just short, falling 5–4 after a late run in the ninth inning.
The Kats showed strong pitching and timely hitting to stay in the game from start to finish. Rafael Smith turned in an impressive outing on the mound, striking out 10 batters while allowing just three hits and two runs over five innings of work.
Erie took control in the second inning. After an error brought in the first run, Tyler Pagano followed with a two-run single to give the Kats a 3–1 advantage.
Anoka Ramsey eventually worked its way back into the game, briefly taking the lead in the sixth before Erie responded. Adam Scibetta delivered an RBI single down the right field line to tie the game at 4–4 and set up a tense finish.
In the top of the ninth, Anoka Ramsey broke the tie with an RBI double to edge ahead for good.
Pagano led Erie with two RBIs, while Nolan Nobile paced the offense with two hits. The Kats also applied pressure on the bases, swiping five steals in the game, including three by Ryan Boyle.
Despite the tough result, Erie received strong efforts on the mound and aggressive base running as the Kats continued to battle in a tightly contested game.
