Erie took care of business in dominant fashion on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader from Mohawk Valley with a 12-5 win followed by a 10-0 shutout, showcasing both offensive firepower and strong pitching.
In the opener, the Kats had to battle early adversity before pulling away late. Erie struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on an error and a hit-by-pitch to take an early lead. Mohawk Valley answered quickly to go up 3-2, but Erie continued to chip away. A double by Jaxsyn Moritz in the second tied the game, and after briefly falling behind again, the Kats surged ahead for good in the fourth inning. Taking advantage of more defensive miscues along with a key RBI single from Tyler Pagano, Erie grabbed control and never looked back.
The offense stayed aggressive throughout, piling up 11 hits and drawing nine walks. Elijah Williams set the tone at the top of the lineup with a four-hit performance, while Ryan Boyle added two hits and wreaked havoc on the bases alongside Williams as the duo combined for multiple stolen bases. Nolan Nobile contributed two RBIs in the middle of the order as Erie totaled eight stolen bases in the win.
On the mound, Justin Refermat delivered a strong relief outing to earn the win, allowing just two runs over more than five innings while striking out seven. He was supported by Kayden Duncan, who added a scoreless inning in relief.
Game two was all Erie from the start.
The Kats erupted for eight runs in the first inning, putting the game out of reach almost immediately. Jake Scibetta delivered the biggest blow with a grand slam to left field, driving in four runs in the frame. Ryan Boyle, Carter McBurney, and Kaleb Locatelli each added RBI doubles as Erie capitalized on early momentum.
With a comfortable lead, Liam McMurray dominated on the mound, tossing five hitless innings while allowing no runs to secure the shutout victory.
Erie continued its balanced offensive attack in the nightcap, with Boyle, Adam Scibetta, and Locatelli each recording multiple hits as the Kats finished the day with 21 total runs across the two games.
The sweep highlighted a complete team effort, as Erie combined timely hitting, plate discipline, aggressive base running, and strong pitching to control both ends of the doubleheader.
