SUNY Erie Baseball continued its strong stretch on Friday, sweeping Corning CC in dominant fashion with 16-2 and 6-0 victories.
In game one, the Kats exploded offensively, highlighted by a huge performance from Adam Scibetta, who drove in four runs on two hits. Scibetta delivered a three-run double in the fourth inning and added another RBI double in the second to lead the charge.
After falling behind early, Erie responded immediately with a five-run first inning to take control. The Kats kept the pressure on, adding runs in every inning, including a six-run fourth that put the game out of reach.
Nick Gold earned the win, allowing just two runs over five innings while striking out five and issuing no walks. Nolan Nobile led the offense with three hits, while Tyler Pagano and Kaleb Locatelli each contributed RBI hits. Locatelli also added three stolen bases as Erie totaled four steals and played error-free defense.
Game two featured another complete performance, this time led by pitching and timely power in a 6-0 shutout.
Jim Buettner got Erie on the board early with a three-run home run in the first inning, setting the tone for the game. The Kats added insurance runs and once again controlled the tempo throughout.
Rafael Smith was dominant on the mound, tossing six scoreless innings while striking out eight. Reece Boyle closed things out in relief to complete the shutout.
Buettner led the offense with three RBIs and two hits, while Scibetta added speed on the bases with two stolen bases. Erie once again played clean defensively and swiped four bases in the win.
