Kats Defeat Thaddeus Stevens College in Home Opener
The Erie Community College football team won its home opener in come from behind fashion, defeating Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology (TSC) 27-24. It was the special teams that propelled Erie to today's victory. The Kats were down 17-0 in the second quarter before getting on the board with a defensive touchdown. Freshman defensive end Lafenis Mays intercepted a TSC pass and returned it for the touchdown. After forcing the Bulldogs to punt, Erie quarterback Eric Wilson would hit Dashawn Cox for a 51 yard score to narrow the gap 17-14 before the end of the half.
Erie would get the ball to start the second half and found the endzone on a Damien Littleton 17 yard run putting the Kats up by three. TSC would come right back with a touchdown of their own to regain the lead 24-20. The final score of the game would come in the fourth quarter when Erie recovered a fumble on a missed punt attempt by TSC. Mays jumped on the fumble by the TSC punter to run it in for the score.
The Kats put up 244 total yards of offense with Wilson going 12-32 with 130 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Littleton led the way on the ground, rushing for 79 yards a score.
Erie will take on Buffalo State University JV and 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 27th.
