Cross Country Secures Top-10 Finishes at Daniel Walker Invite
SUNY Erie cross country opened the 2022 season at the Buffalo State Daniel Walker Invitational. The Kats faced local competition from Buffalo State College, Hilbert College, Medaille University, and Bryant & Stratton College.
In the women's 5K, Madison Baird made her Kats debut with an impressive third-place finish and time of 24:54.
The men's race was also 5K – a short course for early in the season. David Gregoire was the top finisher for SUNY Erie, crossing the line in 20:48 for 6th place. Christopher Davis was not far behind, taking 7th place in 21:30.
"This meet was all about finishing off summer training with a hard effort," said Head Coach Chris Muldoon. "The first race is always challenging, especially when it's as hot out as it was today. I thought Mads ran a solid race, and she will only get stronger from here. Chris went out a little too fast, so we know that's what we need to work on. And then David ran composed and moved up in the middle of the course when a lot of people were slowing down. This is a good start, but we have a lot of room for improvement. We're excited to have our full team together next week and get into a good groove for the fall season."
The SUNY Erie cross country team returns to action on Saturday, September 10, at the Daemen Alumni Invitational.
