The SUNY Erie women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, falling 3–0 to Butler Community College before battling in a four-set loss to Lakeland Community College.
In the opener, the Kats struggled to find rhythm against a strong Butler squad, falling in straight sets. SUNY Erie regrouped in the second match of the day and pushed Lakeland throughout, taking one set before ultimately coming up short in a 3–1 decision.
Offensively, Morgan Nixon and Samantha Padilla paced the Kats with 11 kills apiece across the two matches. On the defensive end, Ciana Wiseman anchored the back row with a team-high 16 digs, while Nixon contributed nine of her own to go along with her offensive production.
Head coach Craig Starzynski emphasized that the weekend was part of the team's early-season growth process. "This weekend was more about getting into the flow of the game than wins or losses," Starzynski said. "We were all hoping to play better but we will learn from this and get better. The positive takeaway was watching our middles and setters connect really well."
The Kats return to action on Saturday, September 6th as they stay on road slate with POD play at Jefferson Community College.
