The Erie Community College volleyball team battled its way back into the win column with a hard-fought five-set victory over Genesee Community College on Tuesday night. The Kats came out strong, taking the first two sets 25–15 and 25–22, before Genesee answered with 25–21 and 26–24 wins to even the match. Erie sealed the victory in the deciding set, 15–9.
Head coach Craig Starzynski praised his team's resilience, saying, "Volleyball is such a game of ups and downs. We were up for a while, then down, then back up. But, I was especially proud of Sofia and how she was so positive, even through the downs. We owe that win to her."
Erie was led by Samantha Padilla, who tallied 14 kills and 5 digs, while Kadie Benzel added 26 assists and 10 digs.
The Kats return to action Sunday in POD play, taking on Jamestown Community College and Genesee Community College.
