Erie Women’s Volleyball Splits Pod Play Matches

The Erie Community College women's volleyball team opened pod play with a split on Saturday, defeating Jefferson Community College in a five-set thriller before falling to Fulton-Montgomery Community College in four sets.

In the opening match, Erie overcame a 2–0 deficit to defeat Jefferson 3–2 (20-25, 25-27, 25-17, 25-17, 15-11), demonstrating remarkable resilience and fight. Despite facing momentum swings, the Kats flipped the script and clinched the win in the decisive fifth set.

Erie faced a tough test in the second match of the day against Fulton-Montgomery, dropping a 3–1 (25-23, 19-25, 17-25, 13-25) decision. Despite stretches of strong play, errors proved costly as the Kats were unable to sustain momentum.

Head Coach Craig Starzynski highlighted the positives while noting areas for growth. "It was great for us to come out with a 5-set win in the first full weekend. Our match against FMCC we just compounded a lot of errors and wound up losing. Very proud of Katie and CC, our setters, who made great decisions and hustled like crazy all day," Starzynski said.

The Kats will return to action on Thursday, September 11 when they host SUNY Niagara in a WNYAC match-up at 6:00 pm.
